A Personal Note from Maya Liyer

My view on fetishism is that is comes from somewhere very deep within us. It is also something that can be very beautiful to share with our partners. I have quite a few healthy fetishes myself. I simply adore everything about leather, I am overwhelmingly attracted to submissives and I love men dressed in women’s lingerie to name a few. I am not merely comfortable with these fetishes, I feel blessed to have them. Different fetishes have arisen and set within me throughout my journey, I have discovered new ones and said goodbye to old ones, as different relationships, both personal and professional, have been formed, evolved and concluded.

Woman in pvc stockings and yellow stilettos for Your Guide to Fetishes

Fetishes can play an important role in an individual’s journey into kink. Exploring your fetishes can vastly enhance your enjoyment of kinky play. It is therefore worth giving them some thought to see whether you or your partner have any of your own. This may be as simple as “really” liking certain fabric or “really” wanting to being spanked. Your fetishes will serve to provide your playmate with additional tools to help enrich your kinky experiences together.

Now the most obvious fetish might be a man loving the look of various high heels on a woman, but have you considered that a woman may also get super excited by simply seeing a sexy surfer guy in flip flops? The point being that it is important to try to look at any given fetish from different angles.

Fetishes can therefore be more varied and less obvious than you think. Take yourself outside of what you think of as typical fetishes and really work out the nuances of things that really get you excited. Perhaps simply watching your partner eat and play strawberries and cream might do the trick.

If you have not already done so, please read the following introductory guides before reading this guide.

WhatisaFetish?

You may actually carry a less than positive view of fetishes, as the word fetish is sadly often associated with less than desirable connotations. Perhaps this is due in part to the various stories in the tabloid papers about politicians and celebrities getting caught in compromising situations. The particular fetishes involved are often ridiculed and sensationalised.

Common Definitions

1) A fetish is a form of sexual desire in which gratification is linked to a particular object, item of clothing, part of the body, etc.

2) A fetish is an extremely strong devotion to something. There are sexual fetishes and non-sexual fetishes. The most common use of the word fetish is probably the sexual meaning. Someone with a foot fetish is particularly interested in feet and gets sexual pleasure from seeing, being around or even just thinking about feet. A non-sexual fetish is an excessive interest in something, such as football fan that lives and breathes everything football.

Now have a quick think about what the word means to you and see what thoughts come to mind. If it is a negative view, then it is time to wipe the slate clean and aim to start viewing fetishes as positive things. Rest assured that fetishes can seriously enhance your sexual pleasure.
